Forensic Video Analysis - FVA 101

Introduction to Forensic Video Analysis - dTective/ClearID/Avid - 4 Days


Introduction to Forensic Video Analysis using Ocean Systems dTective and ClearID is 4 day course that provides a comprehensive approach to your casework for both digital and analog video evidence with a primary focus on our the stream-lined workflows and digital media processing.   It is intended for anyone who is new to the field of FVA or persons who have not been formally trained using these tools. 

Topics will include: workflow concepts, digital and analog video recover and processing, image clarification, basic video editing and annotation, final output options, and media management.

The learning environment consists of lectures and hands-on exercises designed to allow the student to become familiar with video analysis and clarification while working with real cases.  Each student will receive a manual with detailed information pertaining to all topics discussed in class.

Prerequisite:
Students are expected to have an average skill level with computers such as: creating folders, saving files, navigating through the Windows environment, basic troubleshooting skills, installing software, etc.   Basic computer skills are not taught in the Introduction to Forensic Video Analysis.

Certification:

A certificate will be given to participants who complete this training and demonstrate a working knowledge of these techniques. Certificates are handed out on the end of the last day 4PM.

Day 1

  • Introduction to the workflow concept
  • Progressive vs. interlaced evidence review
  • Recovery of digital video
  • Capturing and processing digital evidence with DVR dCoder
  • Introduction to ClearID image clarification workflow

Day 2

  • ClearID image clarification workflow (cont.)
  • Introduction to the Avid editing environment
  • Basic video editing techniques using Avid

Day 3

  • Discussing analog video recovery and procedures
  • Digitizing analog video
  • Demultiplexing analog video with dPlex Pro
  • Using MAGNIFi and SPOTlight to highlight area of interest
  • Learning how to track moving targets

Day 4

  • Using arithMATIC to see the changes between two video clips
  • Converting Time-lapse video to real time
  • Using titles on video
  • Exporting evidence as video or still image files
  • Final output for court
  • Media management techniques
  • Final exercise – processing and analyzing a real case

Continuing ED Workshop - Digital Video and Image Analysis DVR dCoder/PS/ClearID - 2 Days


Since 1999, Ocean Systems has continued to develop new tools and updated workflows that extend the power and functionality of the dTective system. Over the last several years, digital video evidence has continued to become a more prevailing format.  As such, we have addressed these changes by developing new tools and a stream-lined workflow for digital media processing and image analysis.  If you have not been to Ocean Systems training in several years, you have not received the latest Ocean Systems training on these updated products and workflows. This 2 day class is designed to remedy that situation.  

Digital Video and Image Analysis - FVA 201 - Continuing ED, provides instruction in a comprehensive approach to processing your casework that includes both digital video and image analysis.  The primary focus will be on the new workflow for the recovery and processing of digital media using DVR dCoder, Photoshop and ClearID.  The learning environment consists of lectures and hands-on exercises designed to allow the student to become familiar with video analysis and clarification while working with real cases.  Each student will receive a manual with detailed information pertaining to all topics discussed in class.  Students will have time to work on practical exercises with their own media in order to further develop and refine their skills.

Prerequisite:
Students must have taken one of the following Ocean Systems dTective classes:

A certificate will be given to participants who complete this training and demonstrate a working knowledge of these techniques.  Certificates are handed out on the end of the last day 4PM.

Forensic Audio Clarification - DAC 101

All forensic video examiners who use dTective will benefit from this 50% lecture, 50%
hands-on training. You do not have to own DAC QuickEnhance AS to take advantage of this
course, but if you do, it's a must. Video evidence is often accompanied by audio evidence.
Additionally, the forensic examiner may have access to audio from 911 tapes or suspect
interviews. This audio may hold valuable clues to help build your complete case. So, learning
audio enhancement techniques is a valuable skill set that will extend your forensic analysis
capabilities.

The DAC Audio Workshop is an intensive two-day training course intended to provide practical

instruction on the proper analysis of audio. The hands on portion of this instruction will be

done using the QuickEnhance AS that integrates directly into the Avid editing interface.

Prerequisite:
Students must have taken one of the following Ocean Systems dTective classes:

2 day, 3 day, 4 day or 5 day

Certification:

A certificate will be given to participants who complete this training and demonstrate a working knowledge of these techniques.  Certificates are handed out on the end of the last day 4PM.
