Video Output from Avid to JVC Deck

There are some basic settings that need to be set to properly to output video from your system to the JVC-SRV10U deck we are currently shipping.

Xpress Systems

1. Cable connections. If you are running a Xpress system you will want to run an S-Video output from your Break-out Box (BOB) to the front input of your JVC. Additionally if there are audio hookups you will connect those from the speaker tap on your BOB to the front inputs of your JVC. You can alternatively use the rear inputs of the deck but it is preferred to use the front inputs.

2. Set BOB to output S-Video. If you are not seeing any video being outputted you may need to set the output from the BOB to S-Video. See No Video Output.

3. VCR Menu settings. You will want to go into the VCR menu and set the Front Auxillary Input to S-Video otherwise it will still be set for the default RCA/Composite connection. Go to the Menu screen, Function Set, scroll down, to Front Aux Input and switch it to S-Video. If you are using the rear inputs you will set the Rear Aux Input to S-Video.

4. Channel Select. If you are using the front inputs you need to set the channel to F-1. If you are using the rear inputs you need to change the channel to L-1.

Xpress DV Systems

1. Cable connections. If you are running a Xpress DV system you will want to run an S-Video output from your transcoder to the front input of your JVC. Additionally if there are audio hookups you will connect those from the transcoder to the front inputs of your JVC. You can alternatively use the rear inputs of the deck but it is preferred to use the front inputs.

2. Disable Real-Time Preview Effects button. Also make sure that your Real-Time Preview Effects button (Little green button) is not turned on. This will disable all outputting on your system. See Little Green Button.

3. Set Transcoder. Change the transcoder from S-video input to DV in/out. When you are digitizing your video you need to have the transcoder set to read the S-video input. When you are outputting to your transcoder you will need to set it to the DV so it will output to your VCR.

4. VCR Menu settings. You will want to go into the VCR menu with your remote and set the Front Auxillary Input to S-Video otherwise it will still be set for the default RCA/Composite connection. Go to the Menu screen, Function Set, scroll down, to Front Aux Input and switch it to S-Video. If you are using the rear inputs you will set the Rear Aux Input to S-Video.

5. Channel Select. If you are using the front inputs you need to set the channel to F-1. If you are using the rear inputs you need to change the channel to L-1.
